Mr. Matthew L. Jenkins III's Obituary
Deacon Matthew L. Jenkins, III affectionately known as "Sonny" was born on October 19, 1945 to the late Rev. Matthew Jenkins, Sr., and the late Armetta Mosley Jenkins. Matthew accepted Christ at an early age and joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health declined. He attended Daleville Elementary School and graduated from Middleton Attendance Center in 1965. Shortly afterwards, he began his employment career at Naval Air Station Meridian. His love for his country lead him to join the United States Marine Corp, where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam, and other duty stations. Matthew soon met his true love Shirley, and on July 24, 1971, the two became one when they joined in holy matrimony. To this union one son was born. On April 18, 2022, God honorably discharged Deacon Matthew L. Jenkins, III from his earthly mission. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Cardelia Gilford, Symerian Tyson, Helen Gordon and Annie V Pollard, and one nephew, Ralph Jenkins. He leaves a lifetime of memories to cherish with his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Payne Jenkins; son: Matthew L. Jenkins, IV, grandchildren: Matthew Jenkins, V, Taliyah Faith Jenkins, and Matayesia Johnson; two siblings: Melvin (Sue) Jenkins of Meridian, MS, and Martha (Roosevelt) Carter of Florence, AL; one aunt: Alice Oliver Hill of Hartwell, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
