Mrs. Mattie Estelle Slay's Obituary
Mattie Estelle Morgan Slay , the daughter of the late Reverend H E & Mattie Morgan was born February 26, 1934 in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Mattie was educated at Harris High School. After completing high school, she attended Meridian Community College. Mattie began her career with Mississippi Action For Progress in 1965, where she would work until her retirement in 2007. In June of 1953, she married the love of her life Robert Slay. To this union five children were born. Mattie gave her life to Christ and was a devoted member of Pilgrim Hill United Methodist Church until her final days. Mattie's life exemplified Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." On August 27, 2020 at the age of eighty-six (86) years old, the Lord called Mattie Estelle Morgan Slay from labor to rest. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. She leaves to forever cherish her memories her children: Ronny C. Slay (Katherine), David Slay, Robert B. Slay, Thomas Slay and Cathy L. McGowan (Charles); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss .her dearly.
