Mrs. Maude Shackelford Johnson's Obituary
Maude Lee Shackelford Johnson was born April 11, 1937 in Coatopa, Alabama. She was the sixth of eight children born to the union of the late Andy and Pearlie Shackelford. Maude accepted Christ at an ·early age joining Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Coatopa, AL. She graduated from Sumter County Training School in Livingston, AL in 1954. After high school she relocated to Meridian, MS and became a member of the Congregation Church of God. Maude met and married Lovell Johnson on December 25, 1957. To this union one son, Michael Leon Johnson was born (who was her heart). Maude was a hard worker who had several jobs in sales and retail to include Gaylord's,JC Penney, and Bonnie Jeans. She retired as a Domestic Engineer for the locally well-known Brookshire family where she tirelessly worked for three generations. She also served faithfully as the church Secretary and Bookkeeper of the Congregation Church of God w1til her health failed her. Maude was a well-dressed classy lady who loved to cook and take care of her family, friends and neighbors. She never forgot a birthday, always sending out cards to family and friends. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Her annual "day-after Christmas dinner" was popular among her family, who enjoyed her large variety of baked specialties. She also loved wrestling and watching her westerns. But most of all she loved the Lord. On February 6, 2021 Maude transitioned peacefully to live with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her son; parents; husband; and two brothers and four sisters: Coleman (Sadie) Shackelford, Carvin Shackelford, Sara (William) Tucker, Arrie Shackelford, Angeline (Marvin) Larkin, and Fannie (Charlie) Marshall. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted brother, Jim (Queen) Shackelford of Butler Alabama; three grandchildren: Michael L. Johnson Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN, Lashica Ludgood of Columbus, MS, and Takeema Ludgood of Meridian, MS; and four great-grandchildren: Kalea, Kennedy, Ai.den, and Knolan. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
