Mrs. Maudie Lee Roper's Obituary
Ms. Maudie Lee Roper was born September 5, 1945 in Yantley, Alabama to the late Mr. Bert and Mrs. Martha Ann Gaines. She was admitted to Rush Foundation Hospital on March 15, 2018 where she heard her name called and was set free from her pain. Maudie was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph L. Roper, her son: Jerry Lee Gaines, her sister: Martha Dian Gaines; her father: Bert Gaines, her mother: Martha Ann Gaines, her brothers: Harvey Gaines, Amaniel Delove Gaines, Samuel Gaines, Matthew Gaines, George Gaines, Willie Bert Gaines, and Perry Gaines. Maudie (Susie) lived in the Desoto area most of her life and was educated in the Quitman Public School system. Maudie was known by many and considered to some as the "Neighborhood Mom", no child was ever turned away, anytime some-one knocked on door -if they were hungry, she fed them, if they needed shoes, clothes or a place to stay -they had that. Maudie was kind hearted and would go out of her way to help anybody. Maudie leaves to cherish her memories three sons Joe Nathan Gaines and Martin of DeSoto, MS; Robert Gaines (Sheree) of Mathersville MS. Two sisters: Mary Triggs of Marrero, LA, Magnolia Bryant of Yantley, AL; three brothers: Larry Gaines (Dorothy) DeSoto, MS; Bobby Gaines (Delphine) Meridian, MS; Daniel Gaines (Adeline) DeSoto, MS; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Maudie will be greatly missed by two aunts: Carrie Starks and Mattie Lee Robin-son; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many oth-er relatives and friends.
