Mr. McGrady Betts' Obituary
Early morning, Saturday, March 16, 2019, as the sun peeped over the horizon, McGrady Betts entered his final sunset at Rush Memorial Hospital. McGrady Betts, first born child of the late Rev. Joseph Betts and the late Esther (Williams) Betts, was born April 06, 1940. McGrady grew up in Toomsuba, MS where he attended Stevenson Vocational High School. December 31, 1962, McGrady and Mary Ellen Mosley were united in holy matrimony. Through that union, four children were born. McGrady is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Betts, his daughter, Brenda Reed, his son, McBrady Betts, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers: Henry Thomas (Ann) Betts of Los Angeles, CA, Moses (Josephine) Betts of Los Angeles, CA, Zachariah (Jeanette) Betts of Toomsuba, MS, Timothy Betts of Paramount, CA and five sisters: Vernell Hill of Brandon, MS, Alma (Michael) Perry of Quartz Hill, CA, Shirley Johnson, of Atlanta, GA, Cynthia (Douglas) Shaw of Atlanta, GA and Sandra (Gary) Ellis of Atlanta, GA; a special aunt, Geneva Williams Hill of Toomsuba, MS and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. McGrady was predeceased in death by his sons, McAuthor and Gregory Betts, and his brother, Ezekiel Betts, Sr. McGrady's career life spanned across decades to include agriculture, roofing, transportation and fabrication. He retired at the young age of fifty-two which afforded him the flexibility to deeper explore his passion of Master Carpentry.
