Mrs. Mildred Sanford's Obituary
Mildred Clayton Sanford was born on July 29, 1933, to Ola V. Moore Clayton and Willie (Bill) Clayton in DeKalb, Mississippi. She was one of seven children and was educated in the Kemper County School District. As a child, she accepted Christ and united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, DeKalb, Mississippi. It was there that her dedicated service to the Lord began. Later she united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church during the pastorage of Rev. J. E. King. At St. John, she was a committed member of the Sr. Choir, Mission Ministry, where she was a member, and served as Leader of the Singleton-Gates Circle. A faithful member and former teacher of the Sunday School, Sister Mesley was a faithful member of the 1:00 Prayer Meeting and Bible Study Group. She loved helping others and her service went far beyond Sunday morning Service. She offered transportation to those in need and could often be seen with her weed eater and other tools beautifying the church grounds and in the community. For many years, she was an employee of Sears Department Store. At the time of her brief illness, she was a volunteer at the Riley Center. Big Momma, as she was lovingly called, loved and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She had a love for her beloved dog, Roscoe, gardening, fishing and decorating at Christmas. She leaves a legacy oflove and devotion to those she touched. Mildred Sanford departed this life for her eternal home, Friday, September 27, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Mr. Tommy Curry, Mr. Louis Mesley and Mr. Willie Sanford; daughter, Mildred Louise Kendricks and her siblings, Elder Willie B Stevens, Matthew L. Hall, John Clayton. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish sweet memories: Daughters: Rose (Tony) Smith of Everett, Washington, Mattie L. Hatter, Lenora Mesley, both of Meridian; Son, Louis Mesley, Meridian; Special granddaughter, Latisha (Jerome) Brown and special grandson, LaQuintis Mesley, both of Meridian; Sisters: Lottie V. Darden, Sadie Hardy, Virginia D. Coleman; Grandchildren: James Hartfield, Ashley Curry, John Davis Jr., Anthony(Madison)Smith, Jonathan(Sirrenthia)Davis, O'Daun Gordon, Andre' Smith, Jazzland Mesley, Skylar Mesley; Great Grandchildren: Angel Hopson, Fabian Mason, Bralli Brown, Jaydan, Jahmari, and Jordynn Davis; Sister-in-law, Jessie L. Eutsey, Brother-in-law, William (Beverly) Sanford; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
