Mrs. Minnie Bland Goff's Obituary
The oldest daughter of Mr. Ed Bland and Mrs. Alverdia Hodges Bland born on January 15, 1920 in Quitman, Mississippi. She departed this life on January 19, 2015 in her daughters care in Boston, Massachusetts. Preceding her in death were her parents, Husband, Rev. Will G. Goff, two brothers: Otis Bland and Leo Bland, and one sister: Maudie Love. She united with the Little Zion United Methodist church at an early age and remained a faithful member until she moved away. "Mrs. Minnie", as she was called by all who knew her, was a member of the Christian Friends Aid Society, United Methodist Women and Communion Steward and was president, secretary and treasure of these organizations at one time. She was also a church Kindergarten teacher at one time. All the children loved her, not just because of her teaching skills, but because of the bag of candy she carried every Sunday to give to them In 1936 Minnie V. Bland was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Reverend Will G. Goff and to this union two children were born. Mrs. Minnie V. loved her children, family, expensive perfume, and her church. Mrs. Minnie V. loved to talk on the phone, once she called Ruth Strickland, talked to her all night long Ruth had to go to work, and Mrs. Minnie V. got in her car met her friends at the track and went walking. Mrs. Minnie is survived by two daughters, Lois Sumrall, Boston, MA; Kathryn Brown, Rocky Hill, CT; Annette Bland whom she raised as a daughter from age three to adulthood, Racine, WI; four Sisters-in-law, Cecila White, Dorchester, MA; Elaine Slaughton, MA; Ruth Bland, Quit-man, MS; Billie Goff, Stonewall, MS; one Grandchild, Robin Carter, two great grand children, India Green and Shakelia Dingla, five great great grandchildren, other family members and many friends.
