Mr. Mitchell A. Lee's Obituary
Dr. Mitchell A. Lee was born October 21, 1965 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Ulysses C. and Leila M. Lee. He passed away at home on March 25, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Lee was a 1983 graduate of Meridian High School. On August 10, 1983 Mitchell enlisted in the United States Army where he served our Nation for 22 years. During his career as a professional soldier, Mitchell served in various assignments defending and honoring. He was presented numerous awards and decorations including The Army Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal, plus many more. Dr. Lee retired from the Army in December 2005 and became a Department of the Army Civilian. He joined the Installation Management Command (IMCOM) in October 2005 as an Assistant Garrison Manager at Germersheim, Germany. In October 2010, after a successful tour, he relocated to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and later to HQ IMCOM Joint Base in San Antonio, Texas. Mitchell worked various positions to include Transition, Sponsorship Program Manager, and the Soldier for Life Program Pilot Coordinator. As a government employee, Mitchell was awarded several Department of the Army Civilian Awards, Certificates, and General Officer Star Notes for his untiring dedication and work ethics. Education was extremely important to Mitchell. He completed the Civilian Education System Advanced Course for government employees well in advance of his peers. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in German Studies. He received a MBA degree from University of Phoenix and was completing a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership. The University of Phoenix has chosen to grant Mitchell A. Lee an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Organizational Leadership. Dr. Mitchell A. Lee enjoyed serving at his church (Shearer Baptist Church), reading, scuba diving, horseback riding, traveling, collecting guns and watches. Dr. Lee is survived by three children, a daughter, Octavia Lee· of Florida and two sons Mitchell and Julian Kalkenings of Germany; two sisters Dr. Kimberly Reynolds (Kenneth) of Georgia, LeVisha Lee of Mississippi, one brother Major Lee (Chelsea) of Mississippi, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Ulysses Kelly, Angelo and Brenda Whitehead all of Mississippi.
