Mrs. Mittie B. Woods' Obituary
Mittie Irene Blanks was the seventh child born to the late Rev. Jim and Mrs. Alberta Blanks on July 25, 1929 in Enterprise, Mississippi. She attended T. J. Harris High School and retired from Rush Foundation Hospital and Riley Nursing Center. She confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. After moving to Meridian, she united with 5th Street Baptist Church. Later she became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she served with the Servants of Mary, Hospitality Committee and as a member of the Choir. In 1946, she met and married Lewis Woods, Sr. and to this union was born seven children. Mittie had an infectious smile that drew people to her. She was affectionately known, not only by her children as "Mudear", but to most who knew her. She loved to talk and never met a stranger. She enjoyed rearranging furniture and had a love for beautiful flowers and plants. God called her to His heavenly flower garden on Sunday, January 26, 2020. She is survived by daughters: Gloria Alford and Bobbye (Rev. William) Griffin, both of Meridian, MS; Elberta (Raymond) Hearn of Birmingham, AL; Diane (Alan) Hicks of Decatur, GA, Vickie (Danny) Davis of Harvest, AL; sons: Lewis Jr. of Tucson, AZ and Jimmy Donald of Meridian, MS; sisters: Betty Coleman of Meridian, MS and Mamie Moore of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Derrick, Carmalita, Corey, Princess, Kelli, Erica, Ryan, Maria, Tara, Shayna, Stephanie, Keyona, Devon, Sean, and Jermaine; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a dedicated niece: Edna Blanks; cousin: Henry Granger; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mittie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law George Alford and grandchildren Angela and Gia.
