Mrs. Nancy Lee Jenkins' Obituary
Nancy Lee Jenkins was one of seven children born to Finis and Betty Washington Ivy in Clarksdale, MS on March 9, 1924.
At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Lauderdale, MS. In later years, she joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, Porterville, MS, under the leadership of Pastor Carey McDonald. She attended services faithfully until her health failed but remained a member until her death. She was also a faithful and active member of Herod of Jericho #440 Stevenson Court.
Nancy always greeted everyone with a smile. As a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and aunt, she spent most of her life as a caregiver, teacher and loving the Lord. She selflessly cared for her loved ones unconditionally and always had an open heart, ear, and home to those in need. During her spare time, she enjoyed watching television, gardening and fishing. Nancy met and married the love of her life, William Jenkins, Sr., on January 20, 1946. To this union seven children were born.
On April 17, 2023, the angels rejoiced as God quickly called her home.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William Jenkins, Sr., and four children, Carrie, Della, Mary Alice and Betty.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory one daughter .Allie Faye Matthews (James) of Meridian, MS; two sons: William Jenkins, Jr. (Markita) of Goldsboro, NC and Morville Jenkins (Mattie) of Lauderdale, MS; four granddaughters: Kimberly Hamilton (Keith) of Memphis, TN, Carmesha Strickland (Rodney) of Meridian, MS; LaLyendia Hardaway (Courtney) of Newton, MS; and LaTasha Young of Anderson, AL; eleven grandsons: Kevin Pleas (Angela), and Kory Pleas (Chasity) both of Lewisburg, TN, Michael Thedford (Tammie) of Desmones, IA, Kenderick Thedford of Fort Dodge, IA, Terence Thedford of Collinsville, MS, Akiva Pettus of Buena Park, CA, William Jenkins (Susan) of Dallas, TX, Robert Jenkins of Naperville, IN, Aaron Jenkins (Natasha) of Nashville, TN, Marcus Spears of Charleston, SC, and Ketrick Young (Kimberly) of Kinterbish, AL; thirty-six great-grandchildren, eight great -great grandchildren, three sons-in-law: Dolphus Jones, Columbus Thedford and Marvell Spears, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
