Mrs. Olean Kirk Jones' Obituary
Sister Olean Kirk Jones was born June 9, 1924 in Jasper County, Mississippi as one of the eight children of the late Frank and Pearl Kirk. She was baptized at an early age at the Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church, and attended the former Twistwood School of Jasper County. As an adult, Olean met and married the late Otto Rand, and together, she and Otto begot one son, Bobby M. Rand. In 1945, she moved to Meridian and met and married the late Mr. David Jones. Both husbands Otto and David, her son Bobby, her parents, and all seven of her siblings -Bennie, Mary Lee, Emteaser, Rosie Lee, Nora Lee, Catherine, and Minnie Lee -proceeded Olean in death. Upon her relocation to Meridian, Olean joined the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend E. L. Thames. As a member of Mt. Olive, she attended worship and sang in the adult choir until her health failed. Olean will be fondly remembered for her love of music and flowers, especially working in her garden and creating beautiful arrangements. Those sharing these memories include her grandsons, Shawn Mcclinton and Tavio Rand; great-grandsons, Jacob McClinton and Taharqa Rand; special relatives, Rosie Burgo (niece) and Nellie G. Morgan (cousin); among other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
