Mr. Paten Brown Jr.'s Obituary
On October 15, 1942 in Shaw, Mississippi, a handsome baby boy was born to the proud parents of Paten Brown Sr. and Emma Gund Brown. They lovingly named their son Paten Brown, Jr.
Paten attended school in Shaw, Mississippi. He received his high school diploma from McEvans High School. Paten enrolled in Tritton College and received an Associate in Science Degree in 1977.
After high school, Paten enlisted in the US Army and served from 1964 to 1966. During this time, he received several service medals and was honorable discharge.
Growing up in a faith-filled, Christian home, Paten accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a dedicated member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church during his childhood. After relocating to Meridian, MS in his adult years, Paten became a member of New Era Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, church secretary, and financial clerk. Paten was ordained as a deacon where he served faithfully until death.
Paten became a Masonic brother and served for over 35 years. During this time, he held the position of Senior Warden of East End Temple Lodge #476, Secretary, Treasurer, and 10th Masonic District secretary of four counties. The Masonic house, Paten Brown, Jr. Chapter, was name in his honor by the Holy Royal Arch Mason Chapter in Meridian, MS.
For a number of years, Paten was employed by General Foods in Chicago, IL. Later after relocating to Meridian, he was employed by GCRI Meridian Naval Air Station until retirement.
On November 11, 2023 Paten Brown, Jr. traded his earthly life for eternal peace. He is preceded in death by his mother, Emma Gund Brown; his father, Paten Brown, Sr.; sisters, Maggie Johnson and Zetty Freeman; a son, Tony R. Jones.
Those whom remain to cherish his loving memories are his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Ruby Brown of Meridian, MS; sons, Reginald Neal Bardliving of Calumet City, IL and Felipe K.
Moffett of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Saddie Dorsey, Lubertha Ross, and Dorothy Brown; brother, Willie Brown; granddaughters, Fallone Kireston Moffett and Alexis Courtney Moffett, both of Chicago, Illinois; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and New Era Missionary Baptist Church family. Paten will truly be missed by many.
