Mr. Richard Lewis Sr.'s Obituary
Richard Lewis Sr., was born in Meridian, MS on October 30, 1995, to the late Mrs. Lillie Jenkins and the late Mr. Evan James Lewis.
Richard grew up in a large close-knit household that laughed together, played together, and prayed together. He attended Meridian High School and went on to work odd jobs after graduation, including salesman at JCPenney. But it wasn’t long before he’d enlisted in the Air National Guard, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant at Key Field ANG Base. Richard proudly served his community and country for 38 years until his eventual retirement from an exceptional military career. More than that though, he served God.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to his adoring wife and best friend, Myra Lewis with whom they were blessed with their children: Deshona, Richard Jr., Maresha, and Chris, along with his firstborn, Stephanie from a previous union. He and Myra shared a lasting commitment to their marriage, family, and God for 44 years. Richard was a devout member of Lively Stone Fellowship Church where he served in several capacities over the years, including Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, and Deacon. He was also a worshipper and a manifestation of pure joy as he authentically danced like David danced, while imploring others to do the same. Praise and worship were his jam, his utmost service.
Veteran. Auto Mechanic. Car Salesman. Handyman. Yardman. Timber man. Businessman. Proprietor. Landlord. Financial Advisor. Toy Collector. Community Volunteer. Even novice guitarist, once upon a time. And the list goes on. Richard Lewis, Sr. was a Jack of all trades and master of many. With that, those who loved him and love him still, will most remember him as one who spoke his peace with resolute conviction and lived in contentment with his decisions and with who he was. We’ll look back with reminiscence of the dude who made the shortest road trips long because he just had to take the scenic route. We’ll chuckle about his frugality, all while appreciating his heart to help when you expected it least but needed it most. Then we’ll ponder, in admiration, his commitment to prudence in all his endeavors. We’ll still find joy remembering him as a humorist who found his own joy in making us laugh. We’ll discern his genuine intent to protect his own and remain a steadfast, God-fearing man. We’ll know he strived to care for his family as best as he knew how. We’ll miss long talks about absolutely nothing that meant absolutely everything. We’ll long for moments we played, for times we prayed. They’ll recrystallized him as a pivotal portion of many fond memories as a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, eldest brother teacher and friend.
Richard entered eternal rest on February 9, 2023, at the age of 67. He was predeceased by his mother, biological father, and two sisters: Rosette Harris & Margaret Hutchinson.
He is survived by his precious wife, Myra Lewis; three daughters: Stephanie Crockett, Deshona (Jarome) Miller, and Maresha Lewis; two sons: Richard Lewis, Jr., and Christopher (Christina) Lewis; grandchildren: Jemia, Jylah, Kourtnee, Camden, Jamiya, Jelil, Haylee, Lauren, Laila, Ryan, Cairo, Londyn. He is further survived by a stepfather, Pastor Calvin Jenkins; two brothers: Kevin (Bobbie) Lewis, Patrick (Tammy) Lewis; one sister, Sherita (Timothy) Alexander; 6 nieces, 9 nephews, and a host of extended relatives and family friends. Certainly, fond memories will live on, but Richard Lewis, Sr. will be dearly missed.
