Mr. Richard Thomas Young's Obituary
Richard Thomas Young was born to Perry & Leatha Young on August 19, 1928 in Hickman, KY. He went to school in Mounds, IL. He moved to Detroit, Ml and worked as a self employed contractor. Richard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful servant of God. He was a member of the New Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Ferndale, MI where he served faithfully.
He met and married the love of his life Ella Louise McKenzie Young in 1974. To this union one son was born, Brian Patrick Young who preceded him in death. He moved his family to Quitman, MS in 2001 and united with the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Trustee. He continued to work as a plumber, electrician and in building & construction. He was a hardworking man that loved to work. Richard loved his family and enjoyed being around all children. He greeted them all with the saying
"Hey Kiddo". He had a warm charming smile and a great sense of humor to all that knew him. He departed this life on June 2, 2022, at Diversicare of Quitman. Both of his parents proceeded him in death. He is the last of 5 siblings to be called by God to their final resting place. His brothers and sisters who proceeded him in death are Maudie Young Scott, David Young, Willie Tom Scott, Luretha Young and Lenora Young Rhodes. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Ella Louise McKenzie Young; five (5) children, Belinda Young Weir (James) of Detroit, MI, Thomas Young (Beatrice) of Eden, NC, Edward Young, Jeffrey Young and Michelle Brown all of Detroit, MI; Six (6) grandchildren, Carcia Young, James C. Weir III, Deondre Weir and Jeffrey YoungJr. of Detroit, MI, Ebony Harris of VA, Latasha Young of Washington, DC.; A niece Nettye Johnson and a nephew Robert Jones (Lucille) who he raised as his own. He also leaves to cherish his memory twelve (12) brother- in-laws and ffteen (153) sister-in-laws and host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
