Mr. Robert Earl Barnett, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Robert Earl Barnett, Sr. was born on December 30, 1943 to Jerry and Jessie Mae Barnett. He was the middle child of one sister and three brothers. The Meridian native attended school in Meridian, MS and Detroit, MI, where he was very active in school sports. He was a graduate of Meridian Junior College. He met the love of his life, Barbara, in 1963. They were married in 1964 and soon after, began their family. He was a member of First Union Baptist Church in Meridian, MS. -------Mr. Barnett also served in the United States Air Force, then worked various jobs in Detroit and Meridian to provide for his family. He enjoyed sports, family, and living life to the fullest. He retired from Lockheed Martin in Meridian, which allowed him more time to focus on perfecting his golf game and traveling across the nation to attend various golf tournaments. He never gave up on his dream of one day winning the lottery. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grand' s, whom he cherished and loved dearly. He stayed acquainted with his close childhood friends and challenged his golf buddies. He was a member of the Black Esquire Brothers of Meridian, and also participated and traveled annually with the Meridianites Picnic festivities. He took great pride in being a very active member of the Sandwedge Golfers Association. Mr. Barnett, at 73 years old, entered into Eternal rest on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Frederick Douglas Barnett and Willie "LeBot" Hooper, and his grandson Nolan Ryan Henderson, III. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Mrs. Barbara Barnett; his sons, Robert Barnett, Jr. of Meridian, MS and Michael (Almanda) Barnett of Columbus, SC; his daughters Sonja (Marcus) Trotter of Atlanta, GA and Yolanda Tureaud of Meridian, MS; his sister Carol (Milton) Lewis of Detroit, MI, Andreas Williams of Detroit, MI, and brother Edward Barnett of Detroit, MI; his grandsons Detrick Landrum of Maryland, Kyle (Yolanda) Thompson of Atlanta, GA, Marcus Barnett and Brandon Barnett of Columbia, SC, and Damien Henderson of Atlanta, GA. His granddaughters are Brianna Barnett of Columbia, SC, Janay Tureaud and Mariah Tureaud of Meridian, MS; his five great-grandchildren are Grant & Harmony Landrum of Maryland, Naomi & Tiana Thompson of Atlanta, GA, and Londynn Barnett of Columbia, SC; his special niece LaShaunda Hopson, and a host of other dear nieces, nephews, and special friends.
