Mr. Robert Charles Hopson's Obituary
Robert Charles Hopson affectionately known as Chip, Rob, and Casanova Black was born the second child to Abel Aaron Hopson and Dorothy Jean Johnson-Hopson on August 23, 1955 in Meridian Mississippi. Robert Charles graduated from Meridian High school and entered the U.S Army where he served diligently until he was honorably discharged. Robert Charles moved to New York City where he worked in the garment district delivering high-end fashion clothing to some of the prestigious fashion designers in the City. His love for building led him to a career in construction. Robert Charles was a very generous loving person who would go above and beyond to help anyone. He enjoyed watching karate, westerns and football. He was definitely a faithful New England Patriot's Fan. Preceding him in death: his wife Shirley Miller-Hopson, his parents Able and Dorothy Hopson, siblings: Jimmy, Robby and Brenda Hopson; grandparents CC and Alice Marie Johnson; his children mothers: Sarah Odom and Annie Simmons; and a host of other nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter Dorothy Hopson of Hampton VA, son Lawrence Simmons of NY, NY; step daughter Yvonne Miller of Meridian, MS; grandchildren Jabriel Weeks and Carson Hopson; brothers: Aaron (Joyce) Hopson of Meridian, MS and Richard Hopson of Chicago IL; sisters: Evelyn Hopson of Queens, NY, Lisa St. John and Barbara Allen of Gainesville, GA, Elsie (Luther) Austin of Atlanta GA, Vickie, Valerie and Verneliar Hopson of Chicago, IL; uncle: Charles (Ernestine) Johnson of Chicago, IL; ex wives: Vivian Newman and Vivian Sanchez, both of NY, Godchildren: Keand and Keana Brown, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. Robert Charles was fortunate to have met good friends in New York along his path: Eddie Brown, Kirk Franklin, Ralph Whitaker and Dobbie. A very special friend, partner in crime, and more like a brother, Michael (Chip) Tinsley from Meridian, MS who shared a special friendship from elementary school until Robert Charles transition. The family will forever be thankful to him!
