Mr. Robert Jr. Wilson's Obituary
Robert Wilson was born in Kemper County, MS on July 13, 1927. He was the fifth of six children born to the union of the late Melader and Willie Wilson. He also had three older siblings from a previous marriage of his father. All his siblings preceded him in death. We were blessed to have him in our lives for such a long period of time.
As a young boy, our dad, along with his siblings, worked the family farm. Although he was not able to attend school and get the education desired, he was endowed with wisdom, knowledge and skills that allowed him to be a family provider.
He was united in holy matrimony to our mother, Mary Payne of Collinsville, MS. To this union, five lovely children were born. Our dad and his family moved to Meridian, MS where he found employment with Dement Printing Company as a packer. His skills were unmatched. He retired from Dement after nearly forty-five years of service.
He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Blackwater Missionary Baptist Church of DeKalb, MS. He also worshipped and praised God with the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Shucktown. In 1971, he Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Meridian, MS where he served faithfully until God relieved him of his earthly duties on November 25, 2018. He served as a Trustee for thirty-five years, was an active in the one o’clock prayer and bible study group, the Sunday School Ministry. Through the Music Ministry, he participated in the Mass Choir and was faithful in the Jerry Yearell Ensemble where he was given the honor of President Emertius after serving as an officer for many years.
He was dedicated Mason. He held membership in Trulight Lodge Number 125. He served as worship leader for fifty years, passing the torch to Brother Chester Clark. He cherished his achivements.
He always found time for family and friends. Some of the truly enjoyable moments were engaging in “Throwing Down Bones” (the game of domonioes) with his son-in-law, Cleve and his brother, Anthony; playing baseball and talking baseball; holding good conversation and sharing his opinion and advice with these good words of wisdom:
“Be yourself, not somebody else; help somebody if you can; clean yourself up and wear some decent clothes; keep things clean and neat; always pray, etc.”
We celebrated dad’s 90th birthday with a grand party. He was surprised by the Proclomation from the Mayor’s Office declaring it “Mr. Robert Wilson’s Day – July 13, 2017.
Today, we celebrate our dad’s transition to the Lord. We know that dad, Mr. Robert “Jr.” Wilson is home.
