Mr. Rodney L. Burton's Obituary
Rodney Lavern Burton was born to the late Charles Quinn Mickel and Audrey Yvonne Edwards in Detroit, Michigan on November 26, 1971. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS.
Rodney confessed his life to Christ at an early age and later became an ordained minister. During his time with us, many of us pulled from him, he poured into us, and he made the time he shared with us enjoyable. With such a humble beginning, he picked up his cross and preached the word of God. Rodney had a big heart and a competitive spirit!! Yet, he always had a word if you needed one.
Rodney attended Meridian Public School System Class of 1992 and continued his education at Meridian
Community College.
Rodney had many professions throughout his life. He began his career at JC Penny's. He later worked as an Unloader at Atlas Roofing Corporation, Automotive Service Technician at Johnson Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, Assembly Operator at Mercedes-Benz and his final employment was with Howard Industries.
Rodney was never scared to take on new opportunities. He had very strong values and was well liked by everyone, mostly due to his positive energy. Rodney was known as the greatest spades player in Mississippi. He was SUPERMAN!
Rodney's children were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with them and encouraging each one of them to always strive for more. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his siblings, family, and friends. He truly loved each of them--and if you knew him, you knew it. He gave all he had and made us all the better while he was with us. He was a friend, whether he was on the basketball court, the card table, or in the church sanctuary. Precious memories will forever flood our souls of the times we shared with him.
What a big-hearted guy he was!!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Quinn Mickel and Audrey Yvonne Edwards, his sister, Tammy Spiers and his granddaughter.
