Mr. Roosevelt "Woodie" Kendricks' Obituary
Roosevelt ''Woodie" Kendricks was born November 4, 1957 in Meridian, Mississippi. His earthly journey was completed on December 8, 2017, at the age of 60. ''Woodie" grew up in the East-end Community and was educated in the Meridian Public School System, graduating from Meridian High School in the Class of 1976. During his time at Meridian High School, he was a coveted track star who became affectionately known as "Train". His kind spirit and warm personality won a special place for him in the hearts of many. He was a father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to all that knew him. After living many years in Meridian, Mississippi, he moved to Mobile, Alabama and later to New Orleans, Louisiana where he became an integral part of the reconstruction effort after Hurricane Katrina. Woodie was a devoted friend and loyal to his family. With a big smile and laugh, he was always ready to help, encourage, and support others. He was a beloved uncle to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews alike in which every last one was the "favorite." Through a silly game played with the family, all knew that they were special and treasured in his eyes. "Woodie" loved to be outdoors fishing and hunting, often using these hours to bond with family. He enjoyed the beauty of nature and hunting coons with his dog. He will surely be missed. · Woodie was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Wilson Kendricks, and beloved siblings: Willie J. Kendricks, Katie K. Manning, and Lois "DK" Kendricks. Remaining to cherish his memory are: One daughter, Niya McCoy, a grandson, Christopher McCoy, and grand-daughter, R'miya James, all of Detroit, MI; one sister, Lottie (Eddie) Naylor of Maylene, AL; three brothers, Robert (Dianna) Kendricks and Calvin Kendricks of Meridian, Mississippi, and Myers (Angela) Kendricks of Spotsylvania, VA; one uncle and a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces and cousins and friends. We will all continue to honor the life and memory of Woodie.
