Mrs. Rosanna Horne Smith's Obituary
Rosanna Home Smith was born on December 22, 1930 in Toomsuba, MS to the late Rev. Ed Home and Cora Miller Home. She was the 6th of six children born to this union. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Spring Hill M.B. Church in Toomsuba, MS under the leadership of her father Rev. Ed Home. She enrolled in Steven School where she graduated in 1948.
In 1954, she met and fell in love with Louis Butchee Smith and was joined in Holy Matrimony to this union 11 children were born, Joann, Faye, Ray, Pat, Johnny, Jenny, Roddie, Freddie, Rodney, Wanda and Michelle and her two older sons Earnest and Paul. It was her life's joy to be a mother and care for her family. In the late 1960's, she moved her church membership to New Canaan Missionary Baptist, Meridian, MS under the leadership of Rev. Matthew Jenkins and Rev. Stanley J. Coleman where she was a faithful member over 50 years. Rosanna worked many years as a share cropper in Toomsuba community to help provide for her family. She spent countless days to ensure her family was provided for. She also worked as a cafeteria worker for Meridian Public Schools for many years. After many years, Rosanna finally reached her golden years where she retired and helped to raise her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She loved playing spades and working words puzzles. On April 11, 2020 Rosanna departed this life. Her parents, husband, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 brothers, three sister, 1 grandson and 1 step-grandson preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory 5 sons: Paul (Sabrina) Home Lockport, NY; Charles Ray (Cynthia) Smith and Frederick (Clara) Smith, Meridian, MS; Roderick (Rena) Smith, Canton, MS; and Rodney (Brenda) Smith, Liberty, NY; 5 daughters: Joann Durr, Patrica Normal, Perry Smith, Wand Smith and Evelyn Smith all of Meridian, MS; 33 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
