Mrs. Roxie Childers' Obituary
Roxie Conzilla Williams Childers was born on April 13, 1933 to the late Noel & Lena Bell Davis Williams in Meridian, Mississippi. Roxie was the eldest of five children born to their union; all preceded her in death. At an early age Roxie dedicated her life to the Lord at Shiloh Baptist Church, where her family has worshiped for generations. Roxie attended Lauderdale county schools and ultimately graduated from T. J. Harris High School and Calmese Beauty College. She also attended Harris Junior College. Roxie married Cemiah Irby and to that union one child, Doris Irby Smith, was born. Roxie later received a certificate in Ceramics from Dunson school of Arts and later taught ceramic classes. She retired from the Amoco Oil Company in 1979. Roxie married Jessie Longmire Sims and moved to Rose Hill, Mississippi, where she was an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of Jasper County's Tioch community association and dedicated much of her time to youth in the Tioch community. She created and managed a recreational youth baseball program, volunteered at local schools and was very active in youth ministry. Roxie also owned and operated a Ceramic studio, where she sold and taught ceramics classes. In 1997, Roxie married the late Hollice Childers and moved to Walnut Grove, MS. They remainea married until Hollice's death in 2005. Roxie and Hollice were avid travelers and truly enjoyed their retirement years together with family and friend. Roxie was a Trustee's wife and an usher at Truelight Missionary Baptist. She was very active in the Walnut Grove community. She served as the president of the outreilch club. She volunteered at the Red Cross and the local elementary school. Roxie truly lived a life of service. She spent her life helping others and working to make her community a better place. On November 4, 2014, after a lengthy illness, Roxie entered into eternal peace at Heritage Hospice in Marietta, GA. Roxie was the family historian for the Brookins and Williams family. She traveled to other states to review records tracing our family genealogy. She compiled records and wrote two books for the Williams family members. She presented a strap book to all her nieces and nephews with pictures of her siblings and their children. Roxie's favorite pastime was making quilts. She made quilts as a labor of love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roxie was proceeded in death by her husband Hollice, her loving parents Noel and Lena Davis Williams. Her sisters, Ossie Ola Anderson and Dessie Cole; Her brothers Noel Leo and Clifford Willaims and Nolan Roberts. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Clifford & Doris Smith of Acworth, GA and her step children. Two grandchildren, Dionna Smith Keels (Mark) of Canton, GA and Corey Brent Smith of Woodstock, GA and seven great-grand children, Ahmad Noel Bratton, Corey Brent Smith, Jr., Mark Alan Keels, Jr., Camryn Brione Smith, Mya Roxie Keels, Christian Bailey Smith and London Doris Keels. Roxie is also survived by her sisters-in-law Helen Hodges of Walnut Grove, MS; Lillie Ross of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Myrtle Donaldson of Detroit, Michigan. Her nephews Grady Cole, Jeffery Cole (Shirley), and Noel Leo Williams, Jr. Her nieces, Sadie Wiggs (Joe), Thelma Green, Jackquline Dunson, Ceatrice Pankey (Ezekiel), Ruby Jean Saunders, Carolyn Williams and a host of loving great nieces, nephews, family and friends.
