Mrs. Ruby Smith McClendon's Obituary
Ruby Pearl Smith McClendon was born to the late Ruby Williamson Smith and the late Willie Ward Smith on November 6, 1949. During her youth, she attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi. She was a graduate of the 1967 class of T.J. Harris High School in Meridian, Mississippi. Upon graduating, she attended and graduate from Jackson State University in 1971 with a B.A. degree in History and Political Science and in 1973 with a M.S. degree in Guidance and Counseling. In 1986, she obtained Certified Advanced Studies degrees in Counseling and Education Administration from State University of New York at Brock-port. In 2010, Ruby retired after working thirty one years from the Rochester City School District in Rochester New, York . During her employment, she worked as a teacher, drug educa-tional specialist, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, grant writer, director of pupil personnel services and school administrator. She also worked with the Birmingham City School District from 1998 to 2001 as a principal and later as the coordinator of safe/drug free schools. She was a member of The Links, Incorporated and she was on the board of several community and civil organizations. Ruby Pearl Smith McClendon passed on February 23, 2015 in Rochester, New York She was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie Jim Clemons, Willie Gene Clemons, Fred L. Smith, and sister, Frances Smith Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories, sisters Rosie Smith Johnson and Gennie Smith Bradley, both of Waynesboro, Mississippi and a host of nieces and nephews: great and grand.
