Mrs. Ruth Lee Pettus' Obituary
Ruth Lee Pettus was born on Monday, October 1, 1923, in Kemper County, Mississippi to the late Robert Kimbrough and the late Maggie Campbell of Scooba, Mississippi. She was the only child born to their union. During the early morning on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 around 4:00 a.m., Ruth went on to be with the Lord peacefully at Bordeaux Community Care Center. Ruth Pettus was baptized at an early age at Union Baptist Missionary Baptist Church of Scooba, Mississippi. She was united in marriage to Arthur Pettus. To this union, six children were born. After moving to Nashville, Tennessee, she became a member of Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Curry. She later joined the Bass Street Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the Senior Choir. Ruth retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company after 25 years of dedicated service, A.J. Smith after 18 years of service and she volunteered for the Foster Granny Program at Clover Bottom Developmental Center for 18 years as well. Whereas Almighty God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to leave "Ms. Ruth Lee Pettus" in our midst 91 years as a testimony to the fact that living right does pay off She leaves to cherish her legacy and rich heritage. A devoted friend, Frank Rucker; three sons, James (Ruth) Pettus of Meridian, Mississippi; Robert Pettus of Scooba, Mississippi; Johnny (Julia) Pettus of Detroit, Michigan; three daughters of which two preceded her in death Laura Mae Dancy and Viola Ivy; Fannie (Charles) Johns of Nashville, Tennessee; 25 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and two devoted God-daughters: Martha Bigsby, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Annette Woods of Nashville, Tennessee; Two devoted and caring friends: Ms. Minnie Tyler; Ms. Nannie Lou Boyland; 5 grandchildren whom preceded her in death, Marie and Vanessa Dancy; Michael Grant, Kerry Pettus and Andre Pettus and a host of nieces, nephews, love ones and friends.
