Mr. S.K. Mathis' Obituary
On May 14, 2022, at 2:51 a.m. surrounded by family at Anderson Regional Hospital, S.K. Mathis entered into eternal rest at the age of 82. God needed another angel in glory to watch over us, so he called S.K. and said "Come on and go with me, rest in peace because 1 know your life on earth was troubled. Only you could know the pain. You weren't afraid to face the devil. You were no stranger to the rain. " Go rest high in glory S.K., your work down here on earth is done. Go to heaven rejoicing Love for the Father, Holy Ghost and the Son. Oh, how we cried the day you left us. The good memories linger on; we know that you are here right now and doing your part as we feel your presence in our.heart. S.K. was born on December 30, 1939, to Mr. A.G. Mathis and Mrs. Girtrude Mathis. He was the third child and eldest son. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion in Dekalb, (Moscow) MS. He united with Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. After moving back to Mississippi, he united with St. John Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi. S.K. graduated from Little Rock High School in Kemper County and Piney Wood Junior College and attended Mississippi Valley State University. He was employed by and retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. S.K. was daddy, buddy, best friend and god-father to so many in the community where he lived, in Flint and Meridian. He was often referred to as "just a good guy". He was loved, he loved life and he will be missed. He was a hard worker and took pride in everything he did. He believed in education and would often say ''major in something so you can find a job when you graduate. " Precious memories will linger on with his wife Ann; his daughter: Miranda Mathis-Harris; grandsons: Ronald and Ryan Harris; brother: Clemmie Mathis (Bettye); sisters: Arletha Blackman (Donald), Jeanell McRae (Lany), Martha Childress, and Yvonnia Henderson (Eric); sisters-in-law: Sara Mathis and Amy "Jean" Chamberlin; brothers-in-law: Joe Baylor and Major Baylor. He also leaves behind two aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors to cherish his memories. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. AG Mathis and Mrs. Girtrude Mathis; three sisters: Doris Mathis, Mordine Peppers, and Christine Washington; and two brothers: James Mathis and Jessie Mathis.
