Mrs. Sadie Hunter Delk's Obituary
Sadie Hunter Delk departed this life for the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on August 11, 2020 after 80 years of bountiful life full of love, caring, service to God as well as to her family. Sadie was born on January 4, 1940 in Enterprise, MS to the union of Ceil and Mary Ann Hunter. Frank and Ella Hunter (grandparents) instilled strong Christian values, as a result, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, which remained her church home until she moved her membership to Mount Olive M.B. Church. Here, she became a Sunday school teacher as well as served on the Usher Board. She believed in service to Lord and made a point that all her children did the same.
Sadie Hunter Delk graduated from T.J. Harris High School in Meridian, MS. She was a majorette and was a proud member of the women's basketball team. In 1964, Sadie was joined in matrimony to Mr. Cornelius Delk Jr., a union that lasted a lifetime. Sadie loved her church activities, but she was always ready to go fishing. Another passion was basketball. She was an avid fan whether at courtside or watching on TV. She enjoyed "shocking" her grandchildren and great grandchildren by "taking it to the hoop". Sadie loved to travel. From Singapore to New York City, she never met a stranger, always had a smile.
Sadie Hunter Delk was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ann Wheeler and her father, Willie Ceil Hunter; Stepmother, Carrie Ann Hunter as well as two grandsons; Marcus L. Delk and Carlos Hawkins. She leaves a living legacy, of love and caring in her husband of 56 years, her life 'r partner Mr. Cornelius Delk, Jr.; her children: Gary G. Borders (Carolyn), Dessa Borders (Brandon), Lisa Honore' (David), Jacqueline Walker (Raymond) and Steve A. Delk (Demetrice); two brothers, W. Ceil Hunter and Cecil Hunter; paternal aunt, Julia M. Rice also a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving cousins and a host of relatives, in-laws and friends.
