Mrs. Samantha Walk-Hunter's Obituary
Mrs. Samantha Walk Hunter was born on July 30, 1968, to Rev. Dr. CL Walk and Ella Grace Carter Walk in Meridian, Mississippi.
Samantha received her education from Southeast Lauderdale High School and is in the graduating class of 1986.
She continued her matriculation at the University of West Alabama where she received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Special Education (2008); Master of Education in School Counseling (2010). She later received her Education Specialist in Special Education (2013).
Samantha Walk united in holy matrimony to Darryl Matthew Hunter on July 29, 2006. She inherited a son, Joshua Hunter, from this union. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, GiGi, mother-in-law, sister, God-mother, aunt, niece, cousin, teacher, sorority sister, and friend. She had an unwavering faith in God, love for Family, Co-workers, students, and a dedication to sisterhood.
Samantha Walk Hunter began her teaching career in 1997 with Meridian Public School District at Kate Griffin Jr. High School. She moved to Tuscaloosa, AL in 2000 where she continued teaching at Tuscaloosa Center for Technology before going to Bottenfield Middle School, Jefferson County School District. Samantha returned to Meridian Public School District in 2004 where she worked at Harris Upper Elementary, Oakland Heights, Meridian High School Ninth Grade Academy in the classroom. Her final job at Meridian Public School District continued at Office of Exceptional Child Education (OECE).
Samantha was a faithful and dedicated member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist and attended regularly. She served in various capacities to include Choir President, Announcement Clerk, Youth Choir Director, Vacation Bible School Instructor, and any in other capacity in which she could be a servant to God and mankind.
She became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Beta Omega Chapter in 1998. She served as the Chaplain, Keeper of the Door, and on numerous committees to include Connections and Social Actions, Sisterly Relations, Music Co-Chair, and Tellers. Samantha became a "Silver Soror" (25-year member in 2023). She brought infectious joy, commitment and unwavering support to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and her light will forever shine in her beloved Sisterhood.
She loved spending leisure time vacationing with her husband on the coast, spending time with GiGi's girl, shopping, mother daughter dinners, sister's outings, and having fun with her family and friends. Sam was the all-around life of the party!!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. CL and Mrs. Ella Grace Walk, baby sister, Sheila, grandparents, and two Brothers-in-law, Steven and Kevin Hunter. Those who remain to cherish her loving memories; her loving and devoted husband of 17 years, Darryl Hunter, of Meridian; son, Joshua Hunter (Raven); GiGi's girl, Jaisla of Newton, MS; mother-in-law, Ophelia Cole; Siblings: Debra (Xekel) Rivers; LTC Patricia (William) Everette, Ronnie (Stephanie) Walk; Dr. Brenda (Otis) Coleman and Melvin (Lisa) Walk all of Meridian, MS; two sisters-in-law: Janice (Hector) Kennedy of Washington, DC and Latisha (Travis) Martin of Meridian, MS; Aunts:
Effie (Leon) Betts, Bobbie (Billie) Malone of Meridian, MS, Louise Nealy of Apple Valley, CA, Eva P. Young of Meridian, MS and Daisy Hubbard of Cleveland, OH and a very special Uncle: Lee Phillip Walk of Meridian, MS., and a special God-Son, Joshua Walk Everette. She also leaves a host of special Nieces and Nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends; very special friends (like sisters), Clarissa Cooney, Dr. Charlotte Shoemaker, Charlette McCarty, TiKeisha Lang, and numerous others who truly loved her and whom she loved dearly.
Samantha Walk Hunter will be dearly missed and her spirit will forever live on in us!
