Mrs. Shirley Ann Coleman's Obituary
Ms. Shirley Ann Coleman was born August 14, 1952, to the late Jack :Joleman Jr. and Lula Mae Coleman. She was raised in the Rose Hill Community in Meridian, MS where she attended Meridian Public Schools. She was part of the graduating class of 1970, the first desegregated class it Meridian High School. Shirley accepted Christ at an early age at New Canaan M. B. Church. There she was a Sunday School Teacher, member of the adult choir, Praise & worship Team, and Mission Ministry. She was also the Adult & Youth Choir Director. She started her career at Magnolia Middle School in 1987, and spent the remaining years as the Assistant Manager of Food Services at Harris Upper Elementary. She has served as both manager and assistant manager at ·Witherspoon Elementary, Harris Upper and Lower Elementary Schools, and Meridian High School. It was nobody BUT GOD that allowed her to retire after 28.5 years. Shirley absolutely loved singing. She was an original choir member of the Fecording group Chosen Generation, where she received the nickname, "Workhorse''. She praised and worshipped her way through any situation. She also enjoyed fishing, reading, cooking, spending time with her grandson, browsing at garage sales and stores, and creating costumes (by hand) for skits and plays at church. After retirement, she found joy in volunteering for the Foster Grandparent Program. She later joined Mt. Nebo M. B. Church in Pushmataha, AL under the leadership of Rev. Marvin Dixon. There she was very instrumental in the Music Ministry; Chairperson of the Musician's Appreciation, and Vice President of the choir. She was faithful to the choir, Wednesday night's bible study, costume designer, and Music Director of Vacation Bible School. Shirley was also dedicated to 8 a.m. services at True Vine M. B. Church, Meridian, MS. Shirley remained a devoted member of Mt. Nebo until she entered into eternal rest at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS on Saturday, March 28, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lula Coleman; sisters, Lou Frances Cole and Bobbie Stene Brown; and daughter, Robin Coleman. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Rosailynne Moore; Son-in-law, David Moore; grandson, Damiyon Oliver all of Meridian, MS; two brothers: Gerald Coleman (Atlanta, GA) and Jack (Felecia) Coleman (Hattiesburg, MS); three sisters: Carmen Coleman, Audrey Lynn (Pastor Marvin) Dixon (Meridian, MS), and Rita (Tierney) Caffey (O'Fallon, MO); one aunt, Ruby Thomas; one uncle, Bobby Alford. two grand "dogs", Ace and Mimi Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
