Ms. Shirley Ann Roberts' Obituary
Shirley Ann Roberts was born on February 24, 1950 to Eloise Harris and O.C. Gamblin. She joined St. John United Methodist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until her death. She attended Shirley Owens High School. Her hobbies included talking, singing, and fishing. On June 6, 1970, she united in holy matrimony with Johnny Roberts, Jr. Two children were born to this union, Shimikia (1975) and Sherrin (1981). She worked at Burlington Industries for 25 years and was the choir president at St. John for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed leading songs and traveling with the choir. Her favorite songs were ''Rise Again" (Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes), "Living Testimony" (The Williams Brothers), "I'm Yours Lord" (Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes), "Have You Been Tried in the Fire" (Florida Mass Choir}, "Guide Me O Thou, Great Jehovah" (Public Domain), and "He Keeps on Blessing Me" (Jackson Southernaires). She departed this life on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at her home. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Albert and Annie Mae Harris; her brother, Osie Clyde Gamblin; her daughter, Shimikia McKenzie; and her father, O.C. Gamblin. She leaves the following to cherish her memories: a loving husband for 49 years (Johnny Roberts, Jr.); a daughter (Sherrin Roberts); a granddaughter (Mauryunna Brown); a special mother (Eloise Heidelberg); two sisters (Katherine Davis and Glenda [Willie] Hall); three brothers (Jimmie Earl [Sherrie] Gamblin, Albert [Margaret] Gamblin, and Roger Strickland); three special aunts (Deloris Goodwin, Minnie Evans, and Dorothy Stovall); a special "aunt" and friend (Aunt Birdie Blakney); a son-in-law (David McKenzie), and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
