Mr. Simuel Edwards' Obituary
Simuel Carl Edwards Jr. was born May 19, 1944 to the late Simuel Edwards, Sr. and Thelma White. His father served in this country in WWII, and relatives were involved in helping to raise Simuel Jr. and his siblings. He received his early education at Prince Street School in Natchez, MS. He was 1963 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson School. He was very athletic and partcipated in all sports avaliable to him in school. Football was his chosen sport, but he also enjoyed swimming. He continued his education at Mississippi Valley State College where he received his degree. After graduation, he moved to Meridian, MS where he was gainfully employed by the Lauderdale County Public School System. He was employed at Middleton Attendance Center of Meridian and later at West Lauderdale High School where he retired from the teaching profession in 2002. His love for education and the students he taught were highly exemplified in his conversations and actions. His students have a high appreciation for his service as they remember the teacher they respected and loved dearly. He was also employed by the National Park Service where he worked as Park Service Ranger fulfulling duties at Lake Okatibee Reservoir in Lauderdale County. Simuel united with and was baptized into the fellowship of the Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age under the leadershp of his father who was serving as pastor. He served faithfully. Serving was a way of life for him. After moving to Meridian, he united with the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. W.C. Griffin Sr. and continued his walk up the King's highway. Records show that he was united with Saint John church family in 1979. He has served faithfully in many capacities. In addition to serving as deacon and trustee, he also served in the Sunday School, Music, and Brotherhood Ministries. He cheerfully supported each ministry of the church. Simuel met and married his true love in Meridian, MS. Her name is Mary Ann. They are proud parents of two children: Steve DeShawn and Carla Chavon. He departed this life on June 1, 2018. Among those whom he was joined in glory are his parents and one brother, Noel. The legacy of Simuel will live on through the lives of many, but especially his devoted wife, Mary Ann Edwards, Meridian, MS; his daughter, Carla Chavon Edwards of Memphis, TN; sons, Steven DeShawn Edwards and Kenneth Bowman; a sister, Geraldine Hollis; brothers, John Edwards, Ezelle Edwards, and David Edwards; the family matriarch, Rosie Marie Elaine, a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, who fondly called him Uncle Pete, and other relatives including the following families: The Whites, Carters, Tennessees, Lewis', Koon and Blow family members; step mother, DeEtter W. Edwards and siblings, Joseph, Anthony, Kenwin, and Rachelle along with caring neighbors classmates, friends from across the country and many students who will cherish the memories of Simuel Edwards, one "gone too soon."
