Mrs. Susie Mae Parker Bartee's Obituary
Sister Susie Mae Parker Bartee was born December 15, 1920 in Crandall, Mississippi to the late Tobe and Ida Parker, the 10th child of 12 children. She grew up in a strong, Christian home that practiced high moral standards and ethical principles. She was preceded in death by her parents and her eleven siblings. On December 2, 2015, she made a peaceful transition frorn earthly home to her heavenly home. Church in Quitman, Mississippi in 1939. During her early childhood she united with the Mt. Gilead Mission-ary Baptist Church in the Rocky Community where she remained a member until her marriage, then she united with the Shiloh Baptist She was a faithful member for seventy-six (76) years. On November 5, 1939 she married the late Emmit James Bartee, who she fondly called "Bartee". To this union of 51 years, nine (9) children were born. Preceding her in death were two children: Josephine Osby and Henry L. Bartee, one grandson: Frederick Savone and one step granddaughter, Toni Cotton. Educationally, she attended the public schools in Clarke County, Mississippi under the "professorship" of the late Thomas Blakely. Matriarchally, to her children, grands, great-grands, great great grands, she was "Marna" or "Mother", "Grandmother", "Granny" or "G". To her nieces, nephews, and extended family members, she was "aunt Susie Mae" or "Cousin Susie". All relatives of her family loved to "gather up at the house" to reflect on the "by-gone days" through oral history of laughter. Family members and their friends just loved to eat her red velvet cake. Most of her years of married life were spent as a homemaker except for the six years in which she worked as an eniployee at May Webb Hosiery Mill in Meridian, Mississippi. A virtuous woman of God: Susie Mae Bartee exemplified Christian characteristics to be admired and modeled by all. Her favorite scriptures were: Psalms 27: 1, 14,Hebrewsll: I and II Timothy 2: 15. Her guiding principles and beliefs: "Just keep your mind on Jesus and Jesus will bring you safely through," "always Thank God". "I can only tell you what the Bible says about that," and "Amn I right about it?" Practices: Daily Bible reading, meditation, encouraging others to Christ, attending church and family gatherings, spiritual commitment, that led to her being highly respected for her Biblical knowledge, wisdom, church organization and functions: Her Favorite songs were: "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", "Calvary," "At The Cross", and "Serving The Lord Will Pay Off After While". Mrs. Susie was the oldest church member at Shiloh M.B. Church where she served as treasurer for over 30 years. Also a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and the Bartee Family's Matriarch. She received several awards and citations for membership's and services in community fraternal and religious organizations. She was a very classy lady, who was known for the wearing off ashionable hats of all shapes, colors and sizes to compliment her handbags, heels and dresses. Remembering her legacy and cherishing her memories are: five sons: Emmit (Betty) Bartee Jr., Shubuta, MS; Rev. Joseph (Webster) Bartee Sr., Jackson, MS; Howard (Dorothy K.) Bartee, Sr., Shubuta, MS; Tobey (Virginia) Bartee, Gautier, MS; Rev. Arthur L. (Cynthia) Bartee, Buckatunna, MS; Two Daughters: Mrs. Julie Thompson, and Ms Dorothy J. Bartee, Shubuta, MS; Son-in-law: Willie Osby, Meridian, MS; Daughter-in-law: Mrs. Mary Bartee, Harvey, LA; twenty-six (26) Grandchildren, Thirty nine (39) Great grandchildren, Twenty-one (21) Great great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
