Mr. Sylvester Herlong, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Sylvester Herlong Sr was born June 18, 1945 to the late Mary Lee and James Herlong, Sr. She was the sixth of nine children.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Elizabeth United Methodist Church. He was a hard and dedicated worker from his youth until his retirement. Most notably, he was employed by Rush foundation Hospital after finishing high school. He remained employed with them for fifty plus years until his retirement. He united with Gracie Sherman Herlong in holy matrimony on February 19, 1970. Through this union five children were created. He was a peaceful, friendly, and easy going man who loved his family. He also had a continuous interest and love for sports.
Sylvester made his transition to be with the Lord joining his loved ones that preceded him, which includes: his loving parents, Mary Lee and James Herlong, Sr.; his brothers: James Herlong Jr. and Hosea Lee Herlong; his sisters: Annie Maxie Herlong and Mattie Jane Webb; a daughter, Michelle Herlong; a son, Deon L. Herlong; and mother-in-law, Allean Sherman Brown, who are all now celebrating his arrival.
Sylvester leaves behind to cherish and treasure his memories: a loving and dedicated wife, Gracie Herlong; three sons: Sylvester (Vickie) Herlong Jr, Timothy C. Herlong, and Leon D. Herlong Sr.; three sisters: Mary Alice Reed, Tweet Ester (Allen) Hare, and Odessa (Jasper) Jones; a brother, Moses (Freda) Herlong; two sisters-in-law , Alberta Herlong and Jean Sherman; three grandchildren: Natalie Herlong, Leon Herlong, Jr. and Elijah Herlong; and a host of step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
