I worked with Syria as a fellow Child Support Attofney with the Department of Human Services. She was always pleasant and to the point. She was never intimidated by over-bearing Judges or difficult people. She was always steady and confident, no matter what the situation. She would just have a slight giggle at the person or situation, and keep on walking with a slight grin on her face. Syria "is" a one-of-a kind person.

Mrs. Sturdivant was a beautiful, very personable and very intelligent lady. She always dressed so glamorous and dignified. My mom Ulpiana Sims and I thought the world of her. She contributed much to the Meridian Community. She will be missed. May God bring comfort to your hearts at this time of grief.

I became acquainted with Syria when I was a student at Meridian Community College in 1966-68. She made a lasting impression on me by her intelligence, dignity, and grace. I have not lived in MS for many years. Reading her obituary, it is clear that her life was lived with purpose and service to others. I am grateful to have known her so many year’s ago.
