Mrs. Theresa Hopkins Cornelius' Obituary
Theresa Ann Hopkins Cornelius entered eternal peace victoriously on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. She was born on October 14, 1951, the daughter of Bessie Kate Harvey Hopkins and the late Joe Hopkins. As a child, Theresa accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Savoy, Mississippi. She was nurtured in the faith and active in the choir, mission and Sunday School ministries. While residing in Jackson, Theresa joined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Theresa was a product of the Meridian Public Schools district. She was an honor student and received several awards for her academic performance. She received her associates degree from Meridian Community college. She was also an honor graduate of Jackson State University receiving a B.S. degree in English. She went on to earn a master's degree in English literature. She also earned a degree in Computer Operations from Phillips Junior College. She utilized these degrees while as an English instructor in Bailey Junior High school. Theresa married Claude Cornelius, the love of her life. To this union was born two wonderful children Cedric and Deontraye. She adored her children. She invested all she had in them to ensure success until her health would no longer allow her to. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Theresa had the gift of developing special relationships with her family and.friends. Theresa was predeceased by her beloved father, Joe Hopkins, one brother Robert Earl Hopkins, two sisters Cloreace Hopkins Vaughn and Eleanor Hopkins Whitlock. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her devoted son Cedric Cornelius (Sheila); her daughter Deontraye and a bonus son Claude Jr.; seven grandchildren CJ, Lea, Cameron, Latreeda, Sara, Tacar, and Amari all of Clinton, MS; a loving mother Bessie Hopkins Meridian, MS; two loving brothers Joe Louis and Odell Hopkins (Sylvia) Meridian, MS; a devoted sister, Monica Hopkins Rue (Tim) Meridian MS; five sister in laws Sylvia Diane, Dorothy Brewster (Meridian) and Vianna Quinn (Troy) San Antonio, Texas, Faye Hughes and Pearl Cornelius Jackson, MS;four brother in laws Celois Vaughn (Meridian) John Cornelius (Willie Jean) Lawrence Cornelius Jr. (Rosetta) and Walter Cornelius (Regina) all of Jackson, MS; a host of nieces and nephews, loving cousins, family and friends.
