Mrs. Theresa Fisher Neal's Obituary
Mrs. Theresa Fisher Neal was born February J 5, 1923 in Meridian, Mississippi. She was one of eight children born to Johnson and Lula Kelley Fisher. Theresa professed her faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and later joined St. James AME Church after her marriage to the late William Neal. Theresa believed in her faith and her love of God. She also had one other goal in life and that was to raise her five (5) children. She went back to school, attending the Manpower Center and in 1964 she had earned her GED and CNA license. Theresa had a long career at St Joseph Hospital, later changed to Meridian Regional Hospital and was employed there in Central Supply until her retirement in 1988. After retiring, you could not keep our Mother from being outdoors. She sweep the street, worked her flower beds and anything else she could find to do. Our Mother was first an usher at St James but she felt her true calling was to sing in the choir. Theresa loved singing in the choir and we knew that Sundays were for church. Theresa Fisher Neal is survived by the following loved ones: Five children, Carolyn Neal (David) Croft, William Neal, Jr., Rita Neal Jones, Howard Earl Neal, and Gregory Edwin Neal; two sisters, Mary Hodges of Battle Creek, MI and Geraldine Moore of Chicago, IL; she also leaves a legacy of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Theresa Fisher Neal was a strong Black Woman raising five (5) children by herself and none of us suffered for anything. She saw that we had what we needed and was stern about school and education. In those days it was true it took a village to raise children; and if any neighbors made complaints, reported wrong doings, or any of us being where we should not have been; we knew what was coming next. She loved us unconditionally and was always there right or wrong; but she would continue to teach us when arrival at home came. Oh, how we love her!
