Mr. Thomas H. Essix, Jr.'s Obituary
Thomas H. Essix, Jr. Was born on January 20, 1955 to the late Thomas H. Essix. Sr and Veta L. Fondren Essix in Meridian, Mississippi. He was a Meridian High School graduate of the Class of 1973. His college years were spent at Meridian Junior College , where in 1976 he earned an Associate Degree.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and united with the New Prospect Baptist Church, Savoy, MS, under the leadership of the late Rev. W.L. Dixon. He later united with the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, MS under the leadership of the late Rev. J.R. Porter.
Thomas work tenure included Matty Hersee Hospital, and Woolworth in the Old Village Fair Mall. In 1976, he became employed with Atlas Roofing Company where he remained for 42 years until his retirement in 2018.
Heavy, as he was affectionately known, wanted to stay busy after retirement, so he obtained a part-time job at Naval Air Station Meridian where he work was until his health failed on March 22, 2021.
On September 7, 2021, he felt the presence of God. He reached out his hand to the Lord and said “Father lead the way.”
Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, grandparents, one great, niece, seven aunts, and three uncles.
Thomas leaves to forever cherish his memories: three sisters: Anita Essix Brown, Brenda Essix and Shelia Essix; two uncles: D. L. Fondren of Birmingham, AL, and John Henry Moss (Alice) of Peoria, IL; a special lady in his life: Cathy Starks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, and co-workers who will miss him dearly.
