Mr. Tom Edward Smith's Obituary
Tom Edward Smith was born April 9, 1931 in Lauderdale County, MS to the late Tom Smith and Hallie Temple Smith. at an early age, he joined Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist church in Shucktown, MS. He later relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he worked as a foreman at LTV Republic Steel Mill. After retiring in 1982, “Boot”, as he was affectionately known, decided it was time to move back home to Bailey, MS. He enjoyed spending time with family and fiends, going to the casino, gardening, playing bingo and dominoes.
Whereas, Almighty God in his infinite wisdom saw fit to leave Mr. Tom “Boot” Smith in our midst 86 years as a testimony to the fact that living right does pay off. he leaves to cherish his legacy and rich heritage: children: George B. Smith (Cincinnati, OH); Ruby Smith-Mosley (Meridian, MS); Lisa Smith (Chicago, IL); Alice Smith (Meridian, MS); Sterling Smith (Chicago, IL); Tommy (Jasmine) Burrage (Bailey, MS) and Thomas Cole (Oklahoma). he also leaves to cherish his rich heritage: sisters: Sadie Lee Page (Bailey, MS); Frances (Robert) Hooks (Bailey, MS); Katherine (Bill) Dedham (Syracuse, NY); 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; 3 brothers-in-law: Theodore (Lou) Cole; Leon (Beverly) Cole and Junior (Sharon) Cole; 2 sisters-in-law: Ruby Proctor and Earline Mosley. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Those who preceded him in death: Alfreda Smith (wife) and Eddie C. Smith (son); 2 sisters: Betty Nelson and Juanita Moore; 2 brothers: John and Jack Smith.
