Mr. Tommie Houston's Obituary
Tommie “Milkman” Houston was born September 28, 1945 in Meridian, MS, the second eldest child to the late Deacon Virgie “LuVertis” Houston and Mrs. Helen Martin Houston. On Saturday, March 25, 2023, Tommie departed this earthly life of natural causes, at the age of 77, in his home in Philadelphia, MS.
He enjoyed dancing and partying when he could, matching his clothes from his hat down to his shoes, visiting the casino, watching his western television shows, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and greatgranddaughter, and attending New Beginnings Adult Daycare. Each day Milkman went to Daycare, he smiled profusely and enjoyed each moment and activity he participated in. Tommie accepted Christ at the age of 11, at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, in Meridian, MS and attended The Middleton Attendance center, where he graduated in 1966. He was employed by The Borden Milk Company as a truck driver, where he gained the moniker "Milkman" that many have lovingly and affectionately come to know him. After leaving Bordon, Tommie was employed by the City of Meridian, as a Truck Driver for 25 years, until his retirement. On May 13, 1975, Tommie married Ms. Lucinda Perry Houston and promised to care for her son Ollie Glenn Perry and daughter Aldia Marie Perry as his own. Through their union Ms. Lisa Renee Houston was born on April 2, 1976. The couple divorced in 1983, but remained close friends, and loved each other until his passing. They kept their promise to one another, as Lucinda has helped care for him over the years until his day of rest. And, over the years daddy has kept his promise to our family and his son and daughter through marriage were not known as his stepchildren, but as his children. Milkman was so free hearted he would help those in need if they showed an effort to help themselves. When he moved to Cedar Bend in Meridian he would make bags of candy and sell it to the kids in the neighborhood, and those thal couldn't afford it, he would give it away. He resided in Meridian, MS for the majority of his life, until he was attacked, robbed and almost lost his life in July 2015. After medically recuperating and being cared for by Trisha McShane in her home, he went to live in Philadelphia, MS with his family. In Philadelphia he enjoyed the extension of his life, and it showed greatly by the smiles he exhibited, and the love he showed and was shown to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mr. Walter Houston, Mr. Eddie Houston, his sisters Mrs. Virgie Houston Dixon, Ms. Easter Mae Rogers, and a grandson Tymon Joshua Davis. He leaves to cherish his memory, his "wife" Lucinda Perry Houston, his son Ollie (Terri) Perry of Carson, California, Aldia Marie Perry (Woodie) Peeples of Philadelphia, MS, his baby girl Lisa Renee Houston Davis of Louisville, KY, his brothers Willie, Charles, Raymond, Robert, James Houston of Meridian, MS, a sister Orlinda Houston, of Meridian, MS, his granddaughters Doris (Tionne) McCray, Ky'AAnderson, Talayla Davis of Louisville, KY, Destiny Edwards and LaSadie Peeples of Philadelphia, MS, Joshua M.
