Mr. Troy Daniel McKenzie's Obituary
Troy Daniel McKenzie was born October 27, 1965 to the late Annis McKenzie Collins and Sonny Moss. At an early age, his mother Annis1 and her three sons, Carl, Jeffory and Troy, relocated to Detroit, Michigan. In 1983, Troy graduated from David MacKenzie H.S. in Detroit, MI. As he grew up in Detroit, MI Troy was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Ferndale, MI. Later in his life Troy moved back to Mississippi where he attended Center Ridge Baptist Church in Shubuta, MS, until his health started to decline. Troy worked in the construction industry as a brick mason and later started his own concrete finishing company called T & M Concrete & Associate. In 2010 Troy received his Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) certification from Dillard University Center of Environmental Justice and later went to work on the Gulf Coast, assisting in the BP Oil spill cleanup efforts. Troy became an active member in the Quitman Chapter of the NAACP and assisted his mother with learning activities at the Ujima Cultural Center in Quitman. It was through the Ujima Cultural Center where Troy gained his appreciation and affection for learning his true culture and heritage as a Black African American Man and lived it to the fullest to the very end. Troy was preceded in death by his mother Annis McKenzie Collins, brother Carl McKenzie and father Sonny Moss. He leaves to cherish in his memories two daughters, Edrah Rembert and Khadejah Harris, of Detroit, MI, three grandchildren, Skylar, D'Mari & Eric Harris, brother Jeffory (Gladys) McKenzie of Clinton, MS, brothers Rodney Moss of Douglasville, GA and Sheddrick Moss of Kansas City, MO, sisters Tonicka Moss of Oakgrove, MS and Kimberly Gatson of Butler, AL; and many nephews, nieces, aunties, uncles, cousins and a host of dear friends.
