Mrs. Vastie Knight Nelson's Obituary
Sister Vastie Knight Nelson was born on August 9, 1933 in Kemper County, Mississippi to the late Everee Hopson and Sam R. Hopson. She accepted Christ at a early age and united with the Mendon Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Porterville, Mississippi she served faithfully performing many duties until her health failed.
Sister Vastie Knight Nelson (83) answered her call to be with the Lord on December 24, 2016 at Bedford Nursing Home in Meridian, Mississippi. She fought a good fight of faith. She worked as a CNA for many years where she cared for people and also trained other coworkers on giving personal care. She loved being able to help others and exemplify the love of Jesus. She volunteered her service with Center Ridge Volunteer Fire Department for numerous of years.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her children. She was known in the community for giving gospel programs throughout the years.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons- Bobby (Vickie) Davis and Dennis (Hazel) Knight of Meridian, MS; three daughters- Nina Bryant of Russell, MS, Dorothea McDonald and Karen Knight both of Lauderdale, MS; ten (10) grandchildren, eight (8) great-grandchildren; two sisters- Essie D. Moore and Jessie R. Fortner, both of Lauderdale, MS; two best friends- Dot Simmons and Mary Ann Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, J.W. Anderson and Willie L. Hopson and one sister, Sephronia Mosley.
