Mrs. Velma Deloris Nelson Clark's Obituary
Mrs. Velma Deloris Nelson Clark, age 79 and a resident of Mississippi for the past 29 years, transitioned to glory on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS with family nearby.
Velma was born on November 23, 1937 in Meridian, MS to the late John Nelson Sr. and Ella Anderson Nelson. She left Meridian as a young adult and moved to St. Louis, Missouri. She was employed for the Jefferson County Public School System until her retirement. Velma served as a member of the St. Louis Meridianite Chapter for several years. She later moved back to Meridian in order to be closer to her family. Velma was an entrepreneur in her own right. She established a home based business where she served the “Southside” community. Velma had a special love for children. She served as a caregiver to many children in the family as well as the community. Velma had four special God-daughters: Ki Brewster-Brown, Felicia Jones, Barbra and Ever Shields.
Velma is survived by her oldest sister, Julia (James) Felder and baby sister, Dorthey Jean Nelson Trotter of Meridian, MS along with a host of special nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends that loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her loving mother, Ella (Anderson) Nelson and father, John Nelson Sr; three brothers, William Anderson Nelson, Larry Burnette Nelson and John Nelson Jr.; three sisters, Dorothy Hosley, Mattie Nelson Payton and Emma Joe Nelson Whitlock.
