Mrs. Veta Lee Essix's Obituary
Veta L. Fondren Essix was born on December 7, 1927 to the late Gus Fondren and Sophie Gaston Fondren, in Washington County, Alabama. Veta attended Shirley Owens Hight School in Quitman, Mississippi under the leadership of the late Professor Owens. She graduated in 1947. Veta accepted Christ at an early age and united with the New Prospect Baptist Church. Savoy, MS under the leadership of the late Rev. W L. Dixon. She later united with the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Meridian, MS under the leadership of the late Rev. J. R. Porter. She remained a.faithful member until her health failed Veta united in holy matrimony with the late Thomas H Essix Sr, in 1952 and to this unionfive wonderful children were born. One son, Alvin C. Essix preceded her in death. Veta had numerous jobs. She worked at Carroll Cafeteria in the Old Village Fair Mall, Highland Elementary School, Oakland Heights School, Bonanza Steak House and Ryan's where she retired in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother. On January 30, 2021, Veta.felt the presence of God. She reached out her hand to the Lord and said, "Father lead the way. " She leaves to.forever cherish her memories, one son: Thomas H Essix, Jr.; three daughters: Anita Essix Brown, Brenda Essix and Sheila Essix; two brothers: D. L. Fondren of Birmingham, Alabama, and John Henry Moss (Alice) of Peoria, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, one of which preceded her in death, Zoey Akira. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, friends andfamily who will miss her dearly.
