Mr. Walter Gibbs, Jr.'s Obituary
Walter Gibbs Jr. was born on April 23, 1945 to the late Walter Gibbs, Sr. and Georgia Wilson Gibbs in Sumter County, Alabama. At a young age he accepted Christ and united with Morning Star Baptist Church in Cuba, AL under leadership of Reverend Mose Wimberly. He was an active member of the choir and a gospel singing group that consisted of youth in the community. After graduating from high school in 1963, he attended Harris Junior College where he majored in Auto Mechanics. Later he worked with Norfolk Southern Railroad in Meridian, MS where he retired after 30 years. He met and married Earlene Betts in 1968, and to that union one precious child was born, Traci Lynn Gibbs. His hobbies were spending time with family, grilling his famous barbeque of which he was known for throughout the community, restoring vintage automobiles, and motor cycle riding with the Easy Riders Motorcycle Club of which he was a proud member. Walter Gibbs, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Gibbs, Sr. and Georgia Wilson Gibbs,· his wife, Earlene Gibbs; four brothers, Robert Wilson, Melvin Wilson, Alfred Roy Hull and George Gibbs, Sr. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi surrounded by his family. He leaves to cherish sweet memories to his loving and devoted daughter that he loved dearly, Traci Gibbs of Meridian, MS and two other daughters, Jennifer Collins and Tijwana (James) Eades of Meridian, MS; one grandchild, Bray/on Eades of Meridian, MS; two brothers, Edward Gibbs of Meridian, MS and Charles Gibbs of Montgomery, AL; three sisters, Mable (Nate) Mason of Cuba, AL and Ora Gibbs of Livingston, AL, and Mattie Gibbs of Montgomery, AL; two sisters in law, Dorothy Wilson of Cuba, AL and Mary Ann Gibbs of Meridian, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends that loved him dearly.
