Mrs. Wendy Leigh Amerson Hill's Obituary
A time to be Born: Wendy Leigh Amerson Hill loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, godmother, faithful Christian believer, devoted church worker, youth leader, mentor, volunteer, and friend was born on August 31, 1975 in Meridian, Mississippi at Mattie Hersee Hospital to Rev. George Lee and the late Bertha Rene Needom Amerson. She was the 8th of 9 children to this union.
A time to Accept and Receive: Wendy accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Porterville, Mississippi. Her Christian life was further nurtured and strengthened through her religious involvements when she later joined the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Cuba, Alabama in support of her husband who was called to pastor the congregation in 2015.
A time to Grow: Wendy received her elementary and secondary school education from the Kemper County School System, where she enjoyed being in student body organizations and clubs. She also liked competing in beauty pageants and contests which her mom, Bertha, introduced her to at an early age. In high school, she enjoyed being in the choir and a part of the Kemper County Marching Band.
Upon graduating from high school in 1993, she briefly attended East Mississippi Community College. As a maturing young adult, she made life detours in her educational and career pursuits. She left college for a period and decided to join military service in the US Army attending basic training in Columbia, South Carolina at Fort Jackson.
After completions of basic training and AIT at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Virginia she was whisked away by a young skinny kid from Cuba, Alabama who had fallen in love with her at first sight in Lauderdale, Mississippi two years prior. They were married on March 28th 1994 and quickly started a family. To their union 5 children were born, Jatesha Jayla, Jered Jr, Jamiah and Javon.
The excitement of being a new wife and mother caused her to truly embrace her role and relish the opportunity. As her kids and now grandchildren will tell you "Momma" and "Granny" always put her kids first. This also led to her cherishing family so much so that she decided to choose the thoughts and value of a "home" over a house which she made numerous out of as she followed her husband due to his enlistment in military service as well. For the next 14 years she endured and embraced 9 family moves starting from Porterville, MS to their first duty station in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. She and her husband quickly found out that Virginia really was "for lovers." After spending nearly 3 and half years there she would be transferred to Pensacola, Florida(which she loved with a passion) and had thoughts of retiring there one day. From Pensacola, in just two short years, they were briefly sent to Gulfport, Mississippi and then from there to Barnegat Light, New Jersey for another 2 years. During this time, her mom became ill and she desired to be closer to her. Sadly, before their transfer back south to Pascagoula, Mississippi was to be complete, her mom passed away. She spent about 3 years in Mississippi, living on the coast, before she was transferred once again over to Destin, Florida living in that area for another 2 years with her loving every minute of the gulf coast, its beach scenery and especially the "TURQUOISE" colored water. Her family would be transferred again, this time to Staten Island, New York. This assignment lasted another 2 years followed by a brief stop in New Orleans, Louisiana and lastly back home to Porterville, Mississippi where it all began for her and the love of her life.
During the numerous moves she would often make a "brief hotel-stay" look and feel like an enchanting far away place, which her husband and children could call home. In addition, and in support of her husband and his many military endeavors, deployments and transfers she held numerous part time jobs, MeDonalds which she loved immensely and Montgomery Wards, to financially assist in maintaining the home. She also served as a Teacher's Assistant and substitute teacher in both the Kemper and Lauderdale County's school systems. She worked with the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department at Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi and lastly, she worked as an office assistant/billing clerk with the Porterville Water Association for nearly 6 years.
All this while maintaining her "home" and doing so enduring joys, laughter, sorrows, and pain through sunshine and rain because the thoughts of "home" always inspired her to carry on. Never stopping because her family needed care and to be fed no matter what type of roof was over their heads. A true Proverbs 31 wife and mother. There will never be another.
