Mr. Willie Rogers Green, Sr.'s Obituary
Willie Rogers Green, Sr. affectionately called "Wit" was born to John Green and Bertha Mae Parker Green In Quitman, Mississippi. He was the 7th of nine siblings. Willie entered into life on earth, January 11, 1939 and entered into eternity peacefully at his home on May 3, 2020. Willie attended school at Shirley Owens High School in Quitman. Early in life, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he spent most of his life. He later moved to San Bernardino and Fontana, California where he resided for many years. Willie was employed by Yellow Freight Lines for 33 years from where he retired. He received his Million Mile gold ring that he proudly wore at all times. After retirement he decided to make his home in Marietta, Georgia. Willie loved to fish, and bought himself a boat for convenience. He and his sister Mary would go fishing on the lakes of Georgia for many hours. He also loved to sing, play the keyboard and play his guitar. He joined a group called The Lindsey Gospel Singers and often bragged about them being the best. Willie loved gospel singing, especially the Greenhill Singers of Shubuta, whom he invited to sing at his church in Georgia. Willie was a very friendly person, always looking to make someone laugh. Willie loved the Lord and while in Georgia, he united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Smyrna, Georgia where he skillfully played his guitar. He would come to Mississippi and attend his home church at Mt. Rose M.B. Church in Quitman, MS. Willie was united in Holy Matrimony to Rose Jones, to this union 5 children were born. Preceding him in death was his parents, one son: Artis Green (1978), five brothers: John Green Jr., James Edward Green, William Thomas Green, Mark Leon Green, Roy Lee Green, two Sisters: Tommie L. Dunbar and Mary L. Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories: Wife: Rose Green, Las Vegas, NV; Three daughters: Syrena Green, Las Vegas, NV; Detra Green and Sharon Green, of San Bernardino, CA; Two sons: Willie Green Jr., Las Vegas, NV, Lamar McNeal, Las Vegas, NV: Grandchildren: Kevin Green, Keviana Brown, Clyde Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Tyree Willis, Taniya Willis, Regina Green, Dana E. Green and 12 great grandchildren. One sister: Julie Holt, Quitman, MS; a host of other close relatives and friends.
