Ms. Marilyn Joyce Adams' Obituary
Marilyn Joyce Adams was born on May 15, 1953 to her parents, William E. Adams and Winifred B. Adams, and her older sister, Sandra Faye. Marilyn departed from this life on September 24, 2021 to go to her heavenly home and be at peace. At an early age, Marilyn joined and was baptized at Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She participated in many church activities and youth organizations which formed the foundation for her Christian faith. Marilyn attended Meridian Public Schools, including West End Elementary School, Carver Jr. High School, and Meridian Sr. High School, from which she graduated in 1971. After graduation, Marilyn enrolled at Jackson State College (now Jackson State University). In 1975, she graduated from Jackson State with a B. S. Degree in Business Education. Marilyn began her professional and career pursuit in Jackson, MS. She gained employment with Ensearch Exploration, an oil exploration company in downtown Jackson, where she held the position of Administrative Assistant. After several years, the company moved their office from Jackson, MS to Dallas, TX and offered Marilyn a position. She did not accept the offer to leave immediately. Instead, she accepted a position working at a school in Jackson. Marilyn later decided to accept the offer to relocate to Dallas, TX which provided an opportunity to gain additional administrative skills and knowledge for future growth. Marilyn loved living in Dallas and immediately became a true Dallas Cowboys fan! She met new friends and adjusted to life in a large metropolitan city. She was supported in her new location by a very close college friend who also relocated from Jackson to Dallas shortly after she did. This provided much relief and peace of mind for family members. During her thirty plus years living in Dallas, Marilyn worked for other companies -ultimately retiring from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as a Benefits Specialist in the Human Resource Department. in 2018, Marilyn moved from Dallas to Madison, MS to be closer to family. This also enabled Marilyn's family to get her connected with proper health facilities and personnel to provide needed services, including the senor residential apartment facility that Marilyn loved and where she became friends with many of the residents and staff. Marilyn was a favorite of the staff and residents. She participated in monthly activities and was eager to assist with decorating for special occasions. Marilyn · loved dogs, even "adopting" another resident's dog at the facility. Marilyn will be remembered as a sweet, friendly, and loving person. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she especially enjoyed Christmas and Thanksgiving holiday gatherings. She also had a sweet tooth and enjoyed big desserts, soft peppermint candy and chocolate Turtles. Marilyn enjoyed going out to eat with her friends and family and laughing the entire time. Her sense of humor, smile and laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Marilyn was excited and overjoyed by the birth of her niece and nephew; and her great nieces and nephews. She celebrated all of their accomplishments, and was very proud of each one. She loved being called Aunt Marilyn! Marilyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, William E. and Winifred G. Adams She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted sister, Sandra F. Sellers; a loving niece, Valetta L. Sellers-Evans, and loving nephew, Aafram Y. Sellers. Esq. (Audrey); two great nephews, Cameron J. Evans and Evan P. Sellers; two great nieces, Kayla A. Evans, and Savannah R. Sellers. One uncle, Willie Burwell (Lolietha); one aunt; Jean A. Davis; and beloved cousins and friends.
