Mrs. Ruby Yarbrough's Obituary
RUBY DELL SCOTT YARBROUGH, 79 of Meridian, Mississippi, was born May 12, 1941, and entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, where she found everlasting comfort and peace in her Father's hands. God dispatched His angel to the bedside of His child to whisper an invitation to come home and rest from her labors. RUBY was born and raised in a Christian home. Her parents are the late Rev. Aaron Scott, Jr. and Delma Nave Scott. She was taught to love, serve and worship the Lord. In the year 1949, At the age of eight, she accepted Christ as her savior and united with Saint John Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev J. E. King. RUBY received her formal education in the Meridian Public School System, a proud student and graduate of T. J. Harris High School -Class of 1959. She continued her studies at Alcorn A & M, and the University of Southern Mississippi. She had a great thirst for knowledge and a strong desire to be a positive influence and help others. RUBY was devoted to her task wherever she served. Her service to the Master claimed priority in her heart, and that was very much shown in her service at Saint John and beyond. She was nurtured in many ministries, namely: Sunday School, BTU/NBC, VBS, Music, Mission and Drama. In Sunday School, she was an avid student. She was instrumental in creating the Young Adult Class, and at the request of the late Pastor W. C. Griffin, she became teacher of that class and remained in the position for sixteen years. She also served as Assistant Superintendent of the C. L. Moore Division and the c. w. Robinson Division of the Sunday School for many years, and superintendent of the Maude Holloway Division 'of the Sunday School for sixteen years. Ruby served as Director of BTU/NBC and VBS for many years. In the Music Ministry, she sang alto in the Young Adult Choir, served as President of that group and was also President of the Mass Choir. In the Mission Ministry, she served as First Vice-President, President, Youth Director, circle leader and Foreign Mission leader at the local and state levels. In the Drama division, she taught her students to become the character when telling a story. Her teaching was through demonstration as well as verbal. She enjoyed storytelling, and her audience enjoyed watching and listening. One of her favorite times of the year to share her storytelling was during Black History Month. Ruby served on the Board of Christian Education for many years. In 1984, she was appointed Dean of Christian Education where she exhibited excellent administrative and organizational skills. Ruby tutored free classes at Saint John and from her home and also taught an adult education class at Saint John. One of Ruby's greatest desires was to TEACH, and God granted her this awesome opportunity in many ways and at different levels. She taught many children and adults in the Meridian area. In the Meridian Public School System, she was fortunate to teach the fifth graders at Mount Barton and West Hills Elementary Schools. She also taught Adult Education at Meridian Community College. . ' Her quest for knowledge and dedication to teaching went far beyond Saint John and her public school classrooms. She was dedicated to teaching and spreading the "Good News" of Jesus Christ. Christian Education was dear to her heart. In 1992, she was blessed with the awesome task of serving as Dean of the East Mississippi Baptist State Congress where she brought Christian Education to new heights. Denominational work was one of her true loves, and she worked tirelessly on the local, state, district and national levels. She also served as Historian of the Women's Auxiliary for many years. RUBY was also very active in civic organizations. The sisterhood of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was dear to her. She served as President, Vice-President and as Zeta's State Amicae Director for the State of Mississippi. She was also a member of the Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Meridian Chapter and served on numerous other boards, committees, and commissions. After retirement, she devoted more of her love to her family and traveling as a professional storyteller. RUBY was united in matrimony to Jerry Yarbrough. To this union, three children were born: Vickie, Valerie and Jeffery. Raising her children was a joy. She instilled in them the value of knowing Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and the desire to become the best they could be so they could teach and instill the same values in their children and generations to come. SHE was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and two brothers. To continue cherishing the many memories are her children: Vickie (Bobby) Davis, Valerie Yarbrough and Jeffery Yarbrough; six grandchildren -Aaron Yarbrough, Brittany (Trevor) Morris, Micah Yarbrough, April Rogers, Kierra Yarbrough and Earnie Rogers, Jr.; One great granddaughter, Taryn Morris; one step-daughter, Trina Thigpen; nieces and nephews, JoAnn Scott Williams, Anthony Warbington, Victor Scott, Michelle Avery and Stephanie Smith and a host of cousins and friends who loved her dearly as well as her Saint John family.
