Valerie Alexander, my sister, is described by many people as sweet --and she is sweet. I say “IS” because her spirit “IS” forever. Sweet though is a one-word summary of the qualities of my sister. There are so many good genuine qualities about my sister. Valerie was warm and she was giving. My sister looked for the “good” of every experience. Valerie also looked for the good in everyone.
Valerie’s smile to me was comforting and assuring. Her smile made me feel better. Her smile was uplifting to me. Valerie’s smile had a warmth and a sparkle. While Valerie’s personality included a quiet gentleness and tenderness, Valerie was as strong as anybody I know. My sister pulled herself up by the proverbial bootstrap and never complained. Whether it was sunny or rain, Valerie was steady, caring, smiling and eternally optimistic. Valerie was always hopeful and wished the best for all of us, family, and friends.
Valerie could come across appearing to be reserved, but Valerie was full of life from the start. When I was in elementary school, whenever I would come over to Aunt May’s house, Valerie would keep me running about. Aunt May would smile when she saw the energy Valerie was expending.
Valarie was always kindhearted. Valerie was always considerate. She was empathetic when she did not have to be. Valerie was considerate not for any type of gain but because she was caring.
Valerie is a mother, sister and hero. My sister had a golden heart, is god’s blessing to her daughter Yolanda. Valerie is a blessing to me and my family.
Valerie loved me and all in our family unconditionally and she was always happy to see every one of us. Valarie was my angel on earth. For everyone who have experienced the warmth of Valerie’s smile and her love and friendship, KNOW that her smile, her love and goodwill will never diminish. Valerie is a part of us, she will always be in my heart. Love you, Calvin Holmes
Valerie and I were very close during the times we would attend church and visit her grandmother Ms Lottie in Davis Court. She was always a person that smiled and never complained. I remember the day I ran into her at the Post Office, she shared her illness with me, and in spite of it all she was still smiling. She told me she was going with her daughter Yolanda and she really had a glow. She was a family person and you could see the excitement on her face when talking about them (Yolanda, and her family, Faye, and Calvin). To the family and friend, of Valerie I know we will mourn ,but know God had better plans and he needed another Angel. He granted her wings and gave her an assignment. So I will say rest on my Dear Valerie. So my prayer is the spirit that you always shared can be duplicated while we wait on our heavenly assignment. Prayers of comfort to the Family.
